Action plan sought to mitigate drinking water woes:




State allocates Rs. 20 crore for Warangal district

The district administration was asked to prepare a plan to meet drinking water requirement in the district till June second week. For the purpose, the State government had allocated Rs. 20 crore.

Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari, Minister A. Chandulal, Collector Vakati Karuna conducted a review meeting on the drinking water shortage across the district and the prevailing dry spell.

A total of 11 mandals in the district were declared drought-hit and efforts were taken to ensure drinking water to the people and the cattle. Meanwhile, the officials were asked to prevent migration of people to far-off places in search of livelihood.

Deputy Chief Minister had asked the MLAs and MPs to contribute from their funds for the purpose and deposit the same with the Collector.

He asked the officials to notify onboard in every village the number of persons engaged in NREGS and the works entrusted to them. Efforts should also be made to revive the defunct borewells and hire the open agriculture wells to augment drinking water supplies in every hamlet. It was decided to pump water from Devadula project from April 8 to improve drinking water supplies. It was also decided to release water from Pakhal Lake to Mahabubabad town to meet drinking water requirements of people in the town. The officials were asked to set up water houses to feed cattle.

Collector Karuna said plans were drawn and proposals for works costing over Rs. 47 crore were already submitted to the State government. The government had sanctioned Rs. 2.59 crore for 11 drought-hit mandals.
